The JAH Archive

About

The JAH Archive is an ongoing personal project dedicated to preserving the photographic legacy of my grandfather, John Anthony Hurley. Following his passing, I discovered a collection of approximately 1,000 film slides documenting his life and travels, including photographs taken while touring with the Irish Army, alongside decades of family history spanning the 1950s to the 1990s.

The project centres on digitising, restoring and cataloguing these images to create an accessible archive of his photography. Using Photoshop, I carefully restore the original slides, bringing new life to photographs that have spent decades in storage, while documenting and organising the collection by date and location. Original images are presented alongside their restored versions below.

Beyond the technical process, the JAH Archive has deepened my interest in photographic preservation, archival research and the role of image-making in documenting personal and collective histories. It is an ongoing effort to preserve my grandfather’s work and ensure these photographs remain accessible for future generations.
